Check out this awesome Dia de los Mertos embellished candle made by Tribe member Niamh to be used during a unity candle ceremony.
I made this candle because I was inspired by all my fellow offbeat brides! It was really neat effect and simple to put together…
Basically I machine embroidered the sugar skull design on organza, used some spray adhesive to attach it to the candle, and added ribbon and some bling, and ta da!!
I swear these days all you can get for unity candles is white, and maybe, if you're feeling really wacky, off-white. Mine is so much more personal, plus, it smells like apple crisp! Who wouldn't want their union to smell of apple crisp? 🙂
If you're interested there's a full tutorial here. And I hope you like! It was inspired by all you awesome gals (and guys).
Was this less expensive than buying a unity candle? It is clearly far more awesome. I’ve been looking for an awesome way to avoid the unity candle $$$ racket. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was. I saw some unity candles in the store that were like 20-30 bucks. This was a scented candle on sale for 6 bucks (yum!), and the ribbon and organza (which I actually already had) couldn’t be more than a few bucks so… 8 dollars maybe?
Sweet looking candle!
I LOVE it! Awesome beautiful job!
I had my FH, who owns an embroidery business, run this on his machine and OMG, it’s BEAUTIFUL. We really want to incorporate it into out DotD theme! Thank you, Niamh! As for candles, sometimes the 99 cent stores have them! Definitely keep an eye out for them.
Awesome! You have opened my world to all the possibilities for less than $30 unity candles.
Is there any way to order these ALREADY embroidered onto Organza? I would love to integrate these into the center pieces for our reception but I don’t know anyone who has an embroidery machine! =(
I own an embroidery machine! Let me know if I can help 🙂
this is absolutly beautiful…ive been looking at a day of the dead site and trying to figure out how to incorporate it in our wedding…this brought such a smile to my face…i love it
