The Offbeat Bride: Miranda, Illustrator
Her offbeat partner: Josh, Furniture Artist
Date and location of wedding: The Moon, Grand Rapids, Michigan — October 22, 2016
Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
We had a lowbrow galactic theme that was heavy on the glitter and tinsel.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We got ready for the event in an old Grand Rapids mansion we rented from Airbnb that was slightly decrepit with lots of charm. It had a perfect view of the city and we had a great photo shoot there.
My childhood friends created original music for our wedding ceremony (found here!).
The ceremony was short and sweet and officiated by one of our friends. We also got a temporary license to have an artist tattoo special flash art she created just for our wedding.
Tell us about your reception:
The vibe of the reception was like an underground warehouse party with vaporwave decor. We had a potluck dinner with a mermaid shell full of booze and an ice cream cart outside.
What was your most important lesson learned?
The biggest planning challenge was a wedding venue change. I sent out invites earlier enough though, so all I had to do was send out a flyer with the address change. I made sure to make the flyer obnoxiously bright so everyone would look at it!
