A colorful queer wedding at Bellingham Pride (planned in only 3 WEEKS!)

After receiving some difficult health news, Bellingham, WA couple Crystal (she/they) and Riley (they/them) decided they did NOT want to wait around for a traditional timeline. Instead, they took the ultimate detour from convention and pulled together a vibrant, hyper-local wedding celebration in just three weeks! By trading rigid wedding planning schedules for absolute intentionality, they integrated their day directly into the fabric of Bellingham Pride. The aesthetics of this wedding are PURE QUEER JOY. Pizza, piano keys, and pre-ceremony prep

The day kicked off inside their own home, surrounded by kids, close friends, and piles of donuts. Rather than a high-stress production with a strict timeline, the morning felt like a relaxed hangout where loved ones pitched in naturally. Friends handled hair and makeup duties while family members played the piano and laughter bounced off the walls.

Crystal wore a dress with striking geometric silver sequin lines that radiated outward across the bodice and skirt, paired with deep teal velvet heels. Riley opted for olive green trousers, a white button-down shirt, tan leather suspenders, and a textured blue bow tie. Both partners showed up with bold hair color choices, Crystal sporting a bright pink crop with a delicate birdcage veil, and Riley wearing a brilliant blue-and-purple blend.

Colorful roots under the canopy at Zuanich Point Park

The ceremony took place beneath a canopy of mature trees at Zuanich Point Park, offering wide views of the water. To honor Riley’s Mexican roots, the couple decorated the space with bright papel picado banners and orange cempasúchil garlands strung between the branches.

Pom-pom strings and tassels hung down above the guests, catching the breeze. Their friend Beeker stepped up to officiate, holding a beautifully illustrated vintage book while playing acoustic guitar as the partners walked toward each other.

Crystal carried a tight, vibrant bouquet from Auntie M's Flowers that featured hot pink dahlias, orange roses, blue hydrangeas, and purple sea holly, all bound together with long, streaming rainbow ribbons.

During the vows, Crystal and Riley held hands tightly while standing before their community and their children, who wore festive attire including a shimmering pastel sequined dress with a matching ribbon back bow. After being declared married, the couple walked back down the grass aisle while guests cheered and waved handmade wands streaming with multi-colored satin ribbons.

Instead of heading to a standard reception venue, the wedding party spilled straight into the streets of the Bellingham Pride celebration. Walking hand-in-hand through the parade route, the newlyweds were cheered on by thousands of locals. They made a quick detour into Rumors Cabaret for a celebratory shot with friends, setting down the rainbow bouquet on the bar next to the glasses and lime wedges.

The highlight of the afternoon arrived when Crystal and Riley took the official Pride festival stage for their first dance. In front of a massive public crowd, they danced to Janelle Monáe’s Make Me Feel… The moment was flirty, tender, and an unapologetic celebration of queer joy.

Low key winding down at the brewery

The celebration concluded in the casual environment of the Boundary Bay Brewery beer garden. Under the open sky, the couple took time to hydrate, chat with their inner circle, and officially sign their marriage certificate on a simple wooden table. Their rings, a detailed vintage-inspired gemstone setting and a dark wooden band, rested against the backdrop of the colorful satin ribbons.

There were no grand ballroom traditions or performative gestures, just a community holding space for a family celebrating life and love exactly as they are.
