Jade and Matt have been together for ten years, they live together, and they didn't need the traditional engagement shoot. The stereotypical couple poses just didn't really represent who they are and where they are in life… and we know many Offbeat Bride readers relate! They decided to document a more typical day for them, plus some shots of them exploring of their city, Atlanta — and some fun kitty-themed props. This led to a really intimate and far more real-feeling engagement session. I'll let Jade take it away about their adorable at-home engagement session…
My fiancé and I have been together for 10 years, and we hadn’t gotten engaged partially because the idea of planning the biggest party of our lives gave me cold sweats. In the last couple years I’ve worked on the underlying anxiety, and we’re finally ready to officially tie the knot!
As art school weirdos who spend 90% of our time watching Netflix with our cats, a traditional engagement shoot wasn’t really our vibe. We were going to pass on it altogether, until our (amazing) photographer Raven gave us a new perspective. We ended up using our session as a way to celebrate our first home with our pets… and indulge my notorious cat obsession. We divided the shoot in two locations to feature both our house and our love of art on Atlanta’s beltline.
Since we’re already pretty settled into life together, capturing it like this was a perfect visual representation of our relationship. And as someone with anxiety, taking the time to open up in front of the camera really helped me feel comfortable. Wedding planning can be stressful, but staying true to ourselves — and having fun with it — keeps us excited for the future.

I love this! What great ideas! I like the ones in the hammock, and I like how they incorporated their pets into the shoot. Great-looking furry family! 🙂
This is wonderful. I love the shots with the masks! I want to be friends with this couple!
YES! CATS!
I love the shots in the home because they are so relaxed, it looks like that have a really cozy comfortable space, and of course, omg cats!
