We've definitely seen grooms with swords cutting cakes at weddings (note: do NOT put the sword back in the scabbard with cake on it. You'll thank yourself later). But we hadn't noticed quite as many women with swords (though we have seen a couple!).
The team who crafted this inspiration shoot drew upon the myth of the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend.
As wedding planner/set designer Merida explained, “The Lady of the Lake turned up in Medieval French chivalric romances as Lancelot's fairy godmother. Since then, Nimue/Viviane/'fair wanton maiden' has been a subject of myth and pop culture. As I developed the concept, I delved into a lot of the myths. Despite chivalric code and all that, a lot of those knights were pretty trash (Sir “I got 99 problems and women are all of them” Gawain, for example). So, why couldn't Morgan Le Fay and Nimue fall in love? LGBT nerds need love, too!
