Offbeat partner: Katie, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Offbeat partner: Jeromie, Health Economist
Date and location of wedding: Mountain Springs Lodge, Leavenworth, Washington — July 23, 2018
Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
Our goal was a bespoke mountain wedding with our closest family and friends. My fiance, Jeromie, is a quadriplegic who uses an electric wheelchair and we wanted to make sure the wedding would be fully accessible. My parents hand made many of the decorations (such as the arch from the trees in their backyard). It ended up being perfectly tailored for us!
Tell us about the ceremony:
We had a ceremony in an aspen grove. I decided to sit at the altar (that my dad made from the trees in my parents' yard) rather than stand so that it would be more natural with Jeromie in his wheelchair beside me.
Tell us about your reception:
My mom found our band about two days before the wedding but they were lovely. We also had music curated for us to dance to as well. My dad changed into a kilt for our first dance!
What was your most important lesson learned?
Our families were very excited and had lots of ideas for our wedding. I would advise couples to make sure you enjoy your day, but also take a minute to soak in how much these people love you and want to be part of your life. Additionally, we encourage couples with disabilities to be confident in yourself, your future spouse, and in your dreams!
