A pared-down wedding weekend in South Africa

At a Glance

Edré and Riaan are both down-to-earth folks and planned a similarly down-to-earth, small and simple wedding. They decided, in lieu of having a honeymoon, to just extend the wedding to a weekend-long event and spend the extra time with family. This pared-down celebration is a great example of less is more.

Edré and Riaan are both down-to-earth folks and planned a similarly down-to-earth, small and simple wedding. They decided to hold the wedding on Riaan’s family’s land, Victorskraal, situated just outside Nature’s Valley in the Western Cape. They decided, in lieu of having a honeymoon, to just extend the wedding to a weekend-long event and spend the extra time with family.

Edré made the invitations, their outfits were bought in local shops, and the whole family pitched in with tables, chairs, tents, and setting everything up. The ceremony was performed by a close family friend, and his wife did the catering, which included traditional farm food and milk tart, koeksisters, brownies, cupcakes, and fudge instead of a cake. dna photographers perfectly captured the gorgeous scenery, which truly was the best kind of decor. This pared-down celebration is a great example of less is more.

Edré bought the flowers the day before the wedding at Elephant Walk Farm Stall, just around the corner from where they live.
