Ryckman Park in Melbourne Florida wedding of Christinia and Trevor

I dare you not to smile while scrolling through Christinia and Trevor's wedding. Double dog dare. Especially when they hold hands before the first look. And during the kiss at the ceremony (with bonus LOLs in the background). And Trevor's pose during the garter removal. And the break dancing tot on the dance floor. And finally at the most golden of hours on the Florida beach. Pilster Photography shot all of these moments at the Melbourne Realtors Association Building in Melbourne, Florida.

Comments on Sweet kisses and a tearful groom at this golden sunset wedding

    • Just a shot in the dark, but you’d never see this wedding on a mainstream site. (As a woman of color, I appreciate the diversity.) That’s not to say that POC are inherently offbeat, but featuring POC weddings certainly seems to be offbeat for wedding bloggers. *shrug* I could be off-base though.

    • We make a point to feature weddings all along the spectrum of “offbeat” — from church weddings to polyamorous weddings; from over-the-top elaborate weddings to super simple weddings. For more about how we pick which weddings to feature, click here. Also, to touch on ferrous’ comment, while editorial diversity is a top priority for us — it’s about WAY more than racial/ethnic diversity.

Most importantly, RB, I’m really uncomfortable with the suggestion that anyone has to “qualify as offbeat.” That’s just not a game we play in these parts.

      • I guess I was just taken back that being plus sized or black somehow makes a wedding “offbeat.” But certainly this couple would not be featured on a “mainstream wedding blog.” But after reading the links in your post I better understand the idea behind a site like OBB.

  1. while this wedding looks quite traditional, doing it your own way – whatever that means for you – is non-Wedding Industrial Complex. I am not an observer of many other wedding related sites, but besides racial diversity, you don’t see many plus-size brides and this couple is gorgeous and so in love!

  2. Oh gosh, the smiles on your faces! <3<3<3 Beautiful wedding, congratulations!

  3. These wedding pictures are so sweet. I’m a fat black woman and I can really see reflections of myself, family members and friends in this ceremony.

  4. I love these pictures – they are incredibly sweet! This looms like a really intimate and fun wedding.

What has really upset me has been the comments about this not fitting with other people’s ideas of Offbeat. I’m pretty Offbeat Lite, I had all the makings of a wedding industry wedding, and yet I felt what we did was pretty offbeat all the same. It really makes me feel for the couple who submitted their wedding to be featured. Thanks Ariel and Superman for always giving us Lites some love!
