Robekkah and Christian were initially Scrabble partners who found love AND gaming fun. They had a DIYed forest wedding in Northern Minnesota full of family involvement, a gorgeous purple and white gown, and a very special officiant. Their photographer, Kayla Lee, gave us such a sweet account of the day, that I couldn't not share it…
In 2012, Robekkah was looking for a strictly platonic Scrabble partner. That was it. Maybe someone with whom to have the occasional picnic. Who she found was Christian, who would do.
Nearly six years to the day, the gal from the west coast of Canada found herself with that boy from Alaska that she met Berlin (Germany) on the shores of Kabekona Lake in Laporte, Minnesota, where they became Scrabble partners for life.
Robekkah and Christian are the kind of people we could call champagne: they are bubbly and effervescent and just a joy to be around. As sweet as they are, they are also sentimental, which was evident through their wedding; there was not one aspect that did not have even the tiniest thread of tradition woven into it.
Robekkah’s dress and veil were beautifully handmade by the bride and her mother and included vintage lace from previous familial wedding gowns; also made my Mom were the bow ties, which were created from the same purple fabric as the dress’s bodice.
The flowers — the plum and lavender calla lilies — were arrangements created with love by Robekkah’s uncle, who stopped at nothing to bring his niece’s vision into reality. His sister aided with the cake decorating, turning a vintage cake topper from her own wedding nearly 40 years ago into something new and special for these newlyweds.
The true icing on the wedding cake, however, was their officiant: Christian’s grandfather, who officially married this couple in a ceremony full of love, devotions, and family. In the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church, friends and family literally came from all across the globe to see these two start their lives together, no doubt making their own traditions that have been inspired by the ones and all their love before.
