Offbeat partner: Joshua
Date and location of wedding: Rose Court Garden, Disneyland Hotel, Anaheim, CA — April 5, 2018
Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
Our theme followed the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole. It was a whimsical vintage-inspired Alice tea party. We had it set at the Rose Court Garden at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. The reception captured the quirkiness of the Mad Hatter's tea party. The party ended when some 1920s-themed tap dancers crashed the party and lead our guests into a Charleston dancing competition.
Tell us about the ceremony:
I arrived in a majestic pumpkin carriage pulled by a beautiful horse. We had our harpist play “Everyday” by Carly Comando as I walked down the aisle with my father-in-law.
Our ceremony followed a literary theme, following the spirit of Lewis Carroll. For my vows, I recited some Shakespeare. Joshua recited a poem in Spanish. Our officiant was awesome and conducted some of the ceremony in Latin with some Latin poetry. We walked off to the Star Wars' “Binary Sunset” song and everybody started to laugh.
Tell us about your reception:
Instead of some of the traditional wedding events like a first dance, we opted for 1920s dancers to come in and teach everyone the Charleston so that we could all dance together. Overall it was a great time with our best friends and family.
When it was time to eat, we had a long Mad Hatter-inspired table spiral down the garden. The table was filled with an eclectic collection of tea cups, flowers, keys, and vintage books. For favors we had an artist come in and paint portraits.
We had telegrams as place cards with calculus and other mathematical equations. At the table, instead of a printed name on the placement card, we had the corresponding math answer. It was a geeky way to get our guests to solve riddles for cocktail hour.
For more guest entertainment we had some lawn games such as giant chess and Jenna.
What was your most important lesson learned?
This wedding reflected a lot of our personalities and it was truly about us. Enjoy every moment of the planning process because once it’s done you’re going to miss it. Also, try to find moments in your wedding day to stop and smell the roses. The day will fly by!

Awesome. I’m sure this was unforgettable. Where you found this gorgeous carriage?
I love this! Alice in Wonderland is such a fantastic theme. I’m curious: what sort of things did people write for the bucket list? Promising to complete it all sounds pretty rash; I guess you must really trust the guests not to put anything too outrageous!
Gah! That Juliet cap veil & blue hair! I need a wedding do-over!
