A lot of our vintage wedding submissions are gorgeous and offbeat in their own ways, but sometimes we run across one of those early pioneers in DIY and bucking tradition. Amy's parents are going strong after 25 years and they started off doing it their way.
Here is what Amy had to say about inheriting her mom's offbeat spirit:
I was looking through my parents' wedding album and realized why my mom has been so understanding of my offbeat style: she was an offbeat bride herself! For starters, mom wore a pink blouse she bought and a pink skirt she made herself. Her one and only attendant was her 13 year-old daughter (my older sister). They had family take photos instead of hiring a photographer. Their friends played music in lieu of a paid band or DJ. They had a potluck reception with a gifted wedding cake. Mostly though, they made their wedding about themselves and celebrating their love with their friends and family. They were married on September 21, 1985. They've been together since then and celebrated 25 years last September. It was mom's second marriage and she was crowding 33, while my dad was only 24.
I am so lucky to have the parents I have. I know a lot of people are dealing with family who don't understand their vision. My parents are always ready to help. When I said I wanted to wear a tutu, my mom almost went out and bought yards and yards of tulle! With their 26th anniversary fast approaching, I'm really glad that they did what they did.

I don’t think so, but they’re worth it!
I’ve seen it before, too, but that might be because the contributor posted it on the Tribe.
I love the cake and the bouquets! All that pink would make my daughter swoon, it is her favorite color!!
