Cassie and Luke didn’t just throw a wedding. They staged a full-on Halloween costume party, complete with a trick or treat dessert bar that made every guest feel like a kid again. Forget dainty dessert tables with neat rows of cupcakes… this was buckets of candy, piles of Halloween pretzels, and the kind of sugar rush that makes your teeth ache in the best way.

These two met at The Bodgery, Madison’s makerspace, bonding over a shared love of tabletop games, crafting, and the kind of humor that thrives on a “yes, and.” Naturally, their wedding leaned into play. Every detail shouted: come join the fun.

Ceremony, vows, and outfits

The ceremony itself was every bit as theatrical as the reception. Cassie entered in her flowing blue gown and hand-tooled leather armor, carrying herself like a warrior-queen crowned in autumn flowers. Luke met her in matching deep blue robes trimmed with intricate gold patterns, a look that gave the whole event a touch of fantasy roleplay.

They exchanged vows in front of a stone hearth lined with white pumpkins. Friends dressed as elves, pirates, and other characters flanked them, turning the exchange of rings and first kiss into something that felt equal parts Renaissance fair and Halloween pageant.

The trick or treat dessert bar
The sweet centerpiece of the Halloween wedding was the trick or treat dessert bar, loaded with nostalgic candy like Bit-O-Honey, Halloween pretzels, and Reese’s peanut butter cups. Guests piled their plates high, grinning like they were back in grade school, and honestly, that was the whole point. Cassie and Luke didn’t want a stiff sit-down dinner that ended in polite applause… they wanted sticky fingers and sugar-fueled laughter.

And the sweets didn’t stop there. Madison Sourdough brought out a gorgeous cake decked with roasted almonds and swirls of autumn-hued frosting. It was the perfect balance between refined and seasonal, looking just as good as it tasted.

Costumes, crafts, and chaos
What’s a Halloween wedding without costumes? From steampunk top hats to cow-print onesies, the range of looks was as wild as the dance floor later on. Cassie herself wore a flowing blue gown with leather armor from Artisans d’Azure, paired with a floral crown that looked like it had been woven from autumn itself. Luke matched with his own handmade-inspired attire, a nod to their shared love of creation.

At the tables, guests doodled across kraft paper runners, turning them into collaborative art pieces that included everything from muscled Pikachu sketches to haunted cats. A craft station encouraged even more hands-on play, complete with spellbooks, glitter, and markers. Yes it was a wedding reception, but it was also a full makerspace energy transplant into a state park shelter.

Food, drink, and spooky terrariums
The catering from North & South kept things hearty, with barbecue, cornbread muffins, and a lineup of sauces that had their own personalities: Kansas City Sweet, Smoky Smoky, Spicy Whiskey, Carolina Mustard. Drinks leaned autumnal, too… think bourbon old fashioneds and sangria served from big glass dispensers, glowing in the light.

Cassie and Luke also filled the reception with their handmade terrariums, each one decorated with tiny spooky critters. These DIY centerpieces tied back to their origin story at The Bodgery: a love of making things, of seeing an idea come alive in your hands.

A wedding that was all treats, no tricks
For Cassie and Luke, the wedding wasn’t about tradition. It was about community, creativity, and candy. By centering their trick or treat dessert bar and filling the day with costumes, crafts, and games, they built a celebration that felt like them from top to bottom.
