A beautiful intimate elopement (that WASN’T the wedding of our dreams)

Sometimes on wedding blogs, you only get to see the sunny side of weddings, especially in real wedding features. This time we’ve got a seriously lovely and intimate elopement that had more than its share of bumps in the road. Despite the problems, this pair triumphed with a gorgeous wedding that, while not the wedding of their dreams, was something to remember.

We technically weren’t even engaged, but decided together that we were ready to get married. We had been together for seven years and both have large extended families. We knew that we wanted to pay for our own wedding but we had different ideas of what we wanted as far as size and location. We deliberated for about a week before deciding that eloping was the best decision for us. We made a list of what was important to us which included: photography, a coastal location, and our mutual love for Star Wars.

hen I set out to marry my boyfriend Tom, I’d already been married for nine years to my husband Dan. This would be Tom’s first wedding, so I didn’t really want to just run off and elope, but he was cool with it, so away we went. I didn’t want a big poofy white dress, since I’d done that previously, and I wanted to be able to enjoy my time with my new guy, so no fuss was my general goal. Here’s how our tiny elopement went down…

We are not traditional people in the slightest, so we went with black and gold as our colors, and cats as our theme. I was bummed that we weren't able to bring our three kitties with us, so we made a large cardboard cutout of them so I could at least see them! Our favors were 'cat toys' that people waved as we left the ceremony. That was just the start of the fun. Don’t miss the kitty ears on the bride and her amazing kitty “bouquet!”
