Manga-inspired engagement party: Come for the incredible DIY decor and rainbow cake, stay for the tutorials!
My fiancé Will and I celebrated our engagement with a shoujo manga (Japanese girls’ comics)-themed party, complete with DIY manga decorations, a magical cake, and all of our wonderful friends. Like many brides-to-be, I spent a ridiculous amount of time scouring the internet for ideas on how to decorate our small venue on a non-existing budget, as well as incorporate our nerdy little theme. Here’s a little recap of the decorations…
Julie & Matthew’s retro polka dots and pinwheels wedding
Pink and red with polka dots and pinwheels all over gives this Denver wedding a bit of a retro and a lot of ADORABLE. Add in some LEGO touches, a successful venue swap (due to a major flood!), and loads of DIY, and you’ll be all in. Oh, and you’ll never guess how the bride used Lady Gaga to surprise her dad!
Jessica & Hector’s “’til death do us part” glam fiesta wedding
After seeing this wedding, there is no way we all won’t be in the mood for Mexican food and a full-on fiesta — which is exactly what this wedding entails. Papel picado, an awesome Mexican restaurant, and tons of DIYed decor worthy of the event make this colorful shindig a stunner. Add in the gorgeous vintage-style chapel and sweet mother/daughter impromptu dance, and you’ll be in love with this love.
A Wes Anderson-themed Thanksgiving wedding
These two pulled in their family and friends to help out: it turns out they’re related to a minister, a florist, and the pair of photographer-videographer-DJs that make up Post & Beam Co. The love these guys have for nature is clear — there are so many animal and plant touches. These guys are also big-time Wes Anderson fans, and used a bit of the filmmaker’s style — especially with references to Fantastic Mr. Fox.
