How can I make sure guests please DON’T stand for the Bride?

One of the unspoken wedding traditions that drives me nuts is when everyone stands up for the bride. I know it’s an old tradition and it’s a respect thing (or something like that. I’m not totally positive of the background). But why just for the Bride? Is anyone planning/have you seen anyone address this? Do you ask the guests to remain seated? Do you ask them to stand as the groom comes down the aisle?

Star bouquets, ray guns, and a moon landing cake

Trish and Al took the Wayback Machine back to childhood for a wild day playing in the snow, posing with their wedding crew, and of course, getting married! Plus, who can resist a bride in glittery Converse, leg warmers, a cape, hot pink crinoline, and a star bouquet? The reception looked out of control with a space theme including robots, ray guns, astronauts and superheroes (and Doctor Who!) photo booth, and their hilarious moon landing cake. Like their favors said: “it was a blast!”

Becky & Pat’s destination brewery wedding in Milwaukee

These two live in Boston, but decided to celebrate where they met: Milwaukee, Wisconsin! What better way to celebrate a brewery town than by having your wedding at a restored tasting room? Add in some colorful flowers and bridesmaid dresses, yummy fajitas and pie (oh, and some FAB custom-made invitations), and you’ve got this destination wedding full of beer-loving guests. Just watch out for slippery dance floors — this bride knows how that can go.

Bethany & Joe’s geeky winter church wedding

It’s Christmas in May around here! This pair doubled down on ornaments and jingle bells in the bouquets and boutonnieres, to super cute effect. Add in the bride’s mini top hat, the bridesmaids’ retro twirly skirts, some geeky necklaces and toasting flutes, and the groom’s self-described “poodle hair,” and you’ve got fancy fun all over this joint.
