Succulents, wishing trees, & a zither at this modern art gallery wedding
Joanne and Shandra’s brunch wedding at an art gallery was full of sweet and emotional moments, a ring dog, cultural touches, and adorable brunch bites. Their decor was a perfect match for the art gallery wedding, including a wishing tree, their answer to a guestbook where guests could hang handwritten cards with advice and well-wishes.
There were succulents, a zither(!), and a processional song for each lady (“Love Today” by MIKA for Shandra and the Rocky Theme Song for Joanne). Don’t miss the macarons that said “Happy Wedding” on them in three different languages!
An elegantly goth Friday the 13th wedding with hints of Tim Burton
Our wedding was a blend of a whole lot of fall, Halloween, goth, Tim Burton-like elements that all worked together in a surprisingly elegant way. We incorporated as much of our ancestral history as we could. We had photos of our passed relatives at both the ceremony and our reception. I wore the bracelet of Daniel's grandmother, I slipped her wedding ring onto my handkerchief, and I read my vows from a bound volume of the poetry written by Daniel's grandfather. It was important to us to share our roots with each other and our families and friends as we became one.
Cheers to this low-key handmade brewery wedding in Chicago
Both the ceremony and reception were very focused on family — our siblings were standing up with us on our respective sides, and our parents and siblings were at the "head" table (which was located in the middle of the room). We ditched several traditions (cake-cutting, bouquet toss, etc.) that would eat up time so we could get straight to eating and dancing.
Our getaway car was my motorcycle — my husband jumped on the back and held my dress as we rode away with cans sounding the alarm of our nuptials.
A galaxy themed tiny zoo wedding with tons of DIY
Our wedding was a mix of us wanting to keep it below a very certain budget and wanting to make it the most fun we could. The theme was sci-fi and we had fun with it. For starters, all of our centerpieces were hand-made by us, each being a scene from a TV show or movie we loved. These included Doctor Who, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Fifth Element, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. We also hid some dragons and unicorns in there as a reference to our favorite fantasy animals.
