BIPOC

Based on reader feedback that it was “hard to find any weddings of people of color,” we started tagging posts that featured a BIPOC bride and/or groom — and/or means you’ll find tons of interracial couples in here! Increasing visibility for BIPOC folks has been a priority for us since 2008, and note that we always allow folks to self-identify. More about how and why we do this here.

A wedding in Washington with Sister Unity officiating

A seriously delightful backyard wedding with a Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence wedding officiant

Greg and Lee’s backyard wedding in Vashon Island, Washington was truly a spectacle to behold. There was foliage on top of flowers on top of golden lights. There were crisp suits and winks and soft nudges. There were simply lovely cakes and sliders and golden roasted veggies. And there was their intimate ceremony officiated by Sister Unity of Los Angeles Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, which added a whole sparkle to an already glowing day.

Everything from their signature cocktails to the piano solo during their ceremony added to the warm feel of the day. You’ve got to see this enviable backyard wedding…

Get romanced by this tropical elopement at a waterfall in Costa Rica

Terrence and I eloped alone at the base of a waterfall in Costa Rica on our ten-year anniversary. We spent two weeks traveling the coast and rain forest of Costa Rica and spent our wedding budget volunteering with animal rescues (sloths and monkeys galore! We love animals), riding horses, bikes, and ATVs, booze cruising, beaching, and hiking. We even made our own chocolate in the rain forest.

A "crafternoon" wedding with painting, melted glass, and a rooftop ceremony

A “crafternoon” wedding with painting, melted glass, and a rooftop ceremony

Our wedding was an all day event for all our family and friends. Our focus was art, making, adventure, and, of course, love. We planned a beautiful rooftop afternoon ceremony in Pilsen, at Lacuna Artists Lofts. This graffiti-filled, mixed use space was amazing and beautiful. It also got our small-town families out of the Loop. After the ceremony, we put all of our 100 guests onto chartered buses and took them to Lillstreet Art Center for four different art classes and snacks for a “crafternoon!”

Chris and Brianna exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Sequoia National Park with their immediate families then we headed north to celebrate in Sonoma with their friends. They greeted guests for a tour and wine cave pizza party(!) at Benziger Family Winery. Then it was a break before the day-after wedding reception at Kenwood Inn and Spa. Multiple days, multiple groups, multiple reasons to LOVE this wedding.
Let’s see how it all played out (including the stunning fairy-lit patio reception!)…
