BIPOC

Based on reader feedback that it was “hard to find any weddings of people of color,” we started tagging posts that featured a BIPOC bride and/or groom — and/or means you’ll find tons of interracial couples in here! Increasing visibility for BIPOC folks has been a priority for us since 2008, and note that we always allow folks to self-identify. More about how and why we do this here.

Sword fights & purple kilts at this dance party wedding with an Oreo toast

Our wedding was held at a gorgeous hall that is owned by a Franciscan monastery, which has little details that make it look like a medieval church (in the middle of Washington D.C.!). My husband collects swords, so our cocktail hour featured friends from the HEMA Alliance (the society for Historical European Martial Arts) performing a demonstration of sword fighting through the ages.

A cornflower blue and lemon yellow Philippines wedding with Moroccan influences

An ultra glam blue and yellow Philippines wedding with Moroccan influences

We had a Moroccan theme with a cornflower blue and lemon yellow color palette. I also did have lemon literally on my bouquet! I wore a sheer prep gown instead of the usual bridal robes. All of our Principal Sponsors blessed us one by one, which is not part of the usual Catholic wedding in The Philippines. The reception had a Moroccan vibe with all possible shades of blue and yellow.

Elegance meets dark romance at this Sydney goth chic wedding

Amy and Andrew planned their stunningly elegant goth chic wedding at Villa Capri in Sydney, New South Wales with the most gorgeous black lace gown, candles, red and white details, caramel corn favors, and loveliness everywhere. Amy was never a traditional person — she is covered in tattoos and white was never for her, so she chose elements from dresses she liked and worked with the designer to make her dream, modern black dress. Their wedding was styled by the amazing wedding stylist, Anna Wang, creating a palette full of blacks, reds, and orange-glow candles.

Piñatas, tacos, & cascarones at this Mexican-inspired DIY wedding in Chicago

Steph and David wanted their wedding guests to feel like they were attending a party in their home. Steph made a piñata for the card box, cascarones (Mexican confetti bombs!) to throw after the ceremony, and a ton of fun table decor. Don’t miss the taco bar, pies and paletas for dessert, some serious dancing and video games, and, of course, piñatas. Steph and David had custom piñatas made to represent them: a cat for Steph and a dinosaur for David. Almost too cute to break!

Let’s hear from Steph about how it all came together…
