What’s a bride to wear if you like playing with gender expectations?
My fiance loves to wear a bow tie and suit jacket, and equally loves to wear little dresses — and she’s at an absolute loss as to what to wear for our July 2014 wedding! She’s got a faux-hawk with the sides of her head shaved, and loves playing with gender expectations. Sometimes she’s soft-butch, sometimes she’s femme.
Emily & Aaron’s monochromatic DIYed wedding
The bride lives in black, so her dress totally had to incorporate the color. Add in her blue hair (her “something blue”), gorgeous black and white veil, their classic ride, and a tear-y groom, and you’ve got this gorgeous Aussie wedding with DIY details. Just wait until you see the groom at the beginning of the ceremony. Oh, and wait until you see how a five-year engagement helped them overcome a challenge.
The drama-minimizing guide to not inviting family members to your wedding
Ug. This is a post no one wants to write, but that definitely needs to be written. Unfortunately, for a whole bunch of legitimate reasons ranging from addiction to abuse, crime to communication problems, some of you are going to face the challenge of not inviting certain family members (or ANY family members) to your wedding.
Raina & Michelle’s elegant Disney + Star Wars wedding
We teased this Disney-meets-Star Wars wedding last week and you guys demanded to see MOAR! From their hand-cut rainbow ketubah, Disney and Star Wars mashup decor, lightsaber cake cutters, “Unbreakable Vow” ring book, and overall makes-me-want-to-hug-them adorableness, you’re going to luuuurve it. Oh, and wait until you see how they memorialized their passed loved ones at the ceremony. It didn’t go quite as planned!
Charlie & Quinten’s barefoot faux-forest indoor picnic wedding
Tons of handmade pillows, hay bales, leaves, and picnic blankets — it must be an outdoor wedding, right? Nope! But it may as well be. Due to some wet weather, these two brought the outdoors in for a green and brown faux-forest wedding. Even the flower girl and ring bearer got in on the theme action. Chalk up some bare feet, some lovely poetry, and a big ol’ party, and you’re ready for forest-y fun indoors.
TWEE SQUEE: wedding shoes with little hearts
While the Vivienne Westwood Melissa Grey Lady Dragon pumps pictured above might be the most iconic heart-emblazoned wedding shoe, these days I’m seeing a lot of stupid-cute shoes with hearts on them. I remember when I first did a round-up of heart wedding shoes three years ago, it was a challenge. Suddenly, it’s not quite as hard to get literal with your wedding day love-inspired footwear.
