What’s trending in alternative wedding veils?

Are you in the market for something a little different in a wedding veil? Sure you could snag a cool wedding hat, an elaborate headpiece, or a sleek and stylish crown, but sometimes you want the grandeur of a VEIL. A birdcage, a flowing cathedral, a flowery crown with tulle… but with a twist!

I found some gorgeous doozies with colors, vintage elements, dip dyes, embroidery, stars, custom words(!), and just tons of rad and unexpected details. Here are some of my favorite alternative wedding veils…

Ultra glam meets rock at this heavy metal wedding in California

Glam style meets rock at this heavy metal wedding in California

Lauren and Bryan are both huge metal music lovers and they were able to incorporate little elements of it into their absolutely gorgeous wedding. It was the best of all worlds! Lauren rocked her stunning black sequined gown, and all the groomsmen had a mini guitar/picks as their boutonnieres. Oh, and don’t miss their matching black and white Adidas, too. And what does a metal loving couple do for their invitations? Design them like a ticket to a rock concert, of course!

Each table was named after the couple’s favorite bands like Megadeath, Van Halen, Slipknot, and Def Leppard. But the real highlight of the night was when Lauren and Bryan got on stage themselves to jam with the wedding band. Check out the response from the guests. Pure concert magic.

These prom dresses can be the affordable alternative wedding dresses of your dreams [Updated for 2022!]

Prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, ballgowns, formal dresses… all of these terms can totally mean WEDDING DRESSES. Plus, they’re almost all sub-$500 which means they’re alternative wedding dresses on a budget. I went a-scouring the prom and bridesmaids sections to see what steals and deals I could find in pinks, metallics, whites, creams, florals, and so many more. Y’all know you can wear white, but don’t discount the rest of the rainbow. Those blush sequins need someone to wear ’em, right? I guess I’ll just have to take one for the team and wear them all. It’ll be hard, but I’ll try to manage.

Go beat me to them and find that prom dress turned wedding dress right now…

A Nigerian-American carnival themed wedding (with Six Flags post-party!)

John and I love theme parks, especially Disney World, so I had the idea to have a carnival themed wedding. I initially wanted to incorporate carnival rides, but given our guest list size (about 250 people invited), we had to be more space conscious, so we opted for a wedding weekend that included a trip to the area theme park (Six Flags) in our wedding attire.

Ever since the ’90s galloped back into our fashion lives and brought with it platform shoes, overall dresses, and of course, choker necklaces, I’ve been rejoicing. Wedding chokers are one of my favorite accessories and there are TONS from which to choose these days. I scoured the internet to find a big selection for any budget. Seriously, any budget can find a necklace here. If you’re looking for a delicate lace choker, a bling-y rhinestone cuff, or a dapper mini bow tie, you’ll find one here.
