Get ready for this Gothic Midsummer Night’s Dream wedding in a forest
If I had to put a label on it, I would call our wedding a "Gothic Midsummer Night's Dream." We made sure to include a ton of natural and rustic elements like crystals, logs, animal bones, and balanced those raw materials with dark elegant pieces to get that "we just magically threw together a fancy party in the woods" vibe. James and I are both artists, so it only made sense that almost all our decorations/accessories were made by us. Don’t miss how we narrowed down our venue search!
Wedding venue search tips from wedding ninjas
Newly engaged folks: have you started your wedding venue search yet? Are you ready to pull your hair out or just the beginnings of a breakdown? Either you’re in a town with so few offbeat options or you’re in a big city with WAY too many options and no way to narrow it all down or find the perfect weird and wonderful venue for you between all the banquet halls. I decided to reach out to some of our favorite wedding coordinators to see what sage venue search wisdom they could impart on us to make the arduous search easier.
Our jaws dropped when we saw this geek adventure wedding (on a budget!)
We had a geek adventure wedding theme, incorporating a few of our favorite things in every way we could (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, The Elder Scrolls, Dungeons & Dragons, The Princess Bride, Game of Thrones, Firefly, New World Magischola, and more). We encouraged everyone to come in costume (and most did! With props!), and we made wands as favors, as well as rheoscopic fluid potion bottles, dragon eggs, and all of the food (from our fandoms).
This lovely & rainy Catskills wedding got flooded out but a last-minute venue switched saved it
Christine and Josh had planned a camping wedding, but on the day, it was pouring rain. Their campsite got flooded and they needed a plan B. Amazingly, a neighbor down the road heard about their wedding and offered their barn to them, if they didn’t mind clearing it out. All their family and friends worked that morning to clean and decorate, and they even created log benches that morning. They made the best of the weather, handing out umbrellas, and ending the night by sending off fire lanterns. They had friends and family from all over the world, Lebanese food, doggos in a ties, and a REALLY gorgeous dress! Let’s take a peek at this rainy Catskills wedding in New York…
