Summer days have drifted away, but, oh, Day 2 of Beach Week and this rockabilly-meets-hip-hop wedding might just bring them back. Tell me more! -Becca
The offbeat bride: Kris
Her offbeat partner: Ben
Location & date of wedding: La Salva Beach, Santa Cruz, CA — January 27, 2010
What made our wedding offbeat: Our families are traditional and WE ARE NOT! So we decided to have two weddings: a “friend wedding” and later a “family wedding.”
This is our “friend wedding,” the one where we let our personalities shine. We rented a HUGE house on the beach and had most of our guests stay with us at the house for three days. It was very relaxing and a great time with great friends.
Tell us about the ceremony: It was only five minutes. Our whole wedding party walked along the beach until we found the perfect spot. Then we called everyone over to us instead of “walking down an aisle.”
Our biggest challenge: Choosing our SMALL guest list.
My favorite moment: We had our best friend become a deputy so he could marry us. He surprised us with “This is the part when I would usually ask if anyone has any objection to this union, but I'm not asking that. If you object, you can kiss my ass 'cause Ben and Kris are perfect for each other!” Everyone cheered and it made us feel surrounded by love!
My funniest moment: The whole wedding and reception was funny!
During our wedding kiss, our friends surprised us by throwing confetti on us!
My advice for offbeat brides: Involve your friends! It will make things fun, cheap and more meaningful!
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? Focus on love instead of items.
Enough talk — show me the wedding inspo!
Simple & sweet! LOVE IT! And the pictures rock! Great pics!!! <3
Where oh where is that fabulous dress from?
I love the words of “if you object you can kiss my a** ” and love the guys outfits! The women looked great as well. Congrats and great idea to have two weddings one for friends and one for family.
