Belle and Layne chose to play their cards close to their chest when it came to announcing the wedding. In fact, they didn’t announce it was a wedding until guests arrived at the property! It was entirely an expression of who they are and how they love. The amount of community involvement in putting the day together showed how much they value and rely on the people in their circles. The DIY elements of the day, including Belle’s dress, articulated their creative spirits.

Although both of them had newly relocated to Kiama, New South Wales when they met, and it’s a wonder how much of a community they have built for themselves since arriving. The wedding was hosted on the property of a family friend and the flowers were designed by an old floristry colleague of Belle’s.

Get ready to swoon…

  1. This is incredibly exciting seeing our wedding on your blog! Amazing to think that even a whole year on people are enjoying our special day with us ?
In regards to the dress, picked it up from Salvos, it was a 70s classic, frilly neck, long sleeves with frills at the end, a million skirt frills, basically just a grill dream! So I ditched the frills and altered the dress to suit my always ideal wedding dress, with bits of help from my darling mum. I then made a large yellow skirt from chiffon for days, I love yellow and couldn’t think of anything I’d rather be wearing on our wedding day, my husband is such a gem and picked his shirt because he loved the bright, fun, floral feels!
Thank you for sharing the love ?

    • Also side note, Henry from Henry Paul Photography is incredible, we loved having him there with us, he just knows how to make a day memorable and he’s also hilarious and we love him!
My friend Steph from Thistleandfoxflorals was also my flower fairy friend whom I had worked with previously, I was going to do the florals myself but she even so wonderfully stood up and took the reins, as a true testament to who she is as a friend. And she absolutely nailed it, I mean how about the stage florals!!!!!!

  2. Thank you. Thank you for this. I’m quarantined at home with a wonderful, but dysfunctional family of 10, nine days before my impromptu COVID wedding after having to cancel the big one. I came here to find photos that captured something unconventional and full of joy. I don’t know you, but you’ve made me feel less alone, more relaxed about the overwhelming tornado of wedding expectations that I can no longer meet due to COVID. This is not due to anything lacking about your wedding—rather, the joy on your faces and the beautiful, bright colors are a good reminder that it’s about the people, not the stuff. Wishing you well. <3
