You may remember us featuring Topsy Turvy's amazing hats back in September… Topsy Turvy strikes again here with Katie's gorgeous top hat!
The offbeat bride: Katie, Education
Her offbeat partner: Forrest, Video Games
Location & date of wedding: Aboard the Hawaiian Chieftain in Ilwaco, WA – May 14th, 2008
What made our wedding offbeat: We knew we wanted it on a ship and we knew what we wanted to wear. I wanted to wear some kind of Victorian BBC/literary adaptation gown, and Forrest wanted to wear the grey suit from the film “Bram Stoker's Dracula”.
To continue the theme we rented out an entire bed and breakfast from the 1800's for our guests to stay in the night of the wedding.
Our biggest challenge: Our biggest challenge had to be the food. Four days before the wedding our chef had to be taken to the hospital. Of course he couldn't cook the meal, so we remained totally flexible and moved the entire reception to a new location and went with a new cooking staff. It worked out wonderfully.
Second place: I was violently ill all the night before and the morning of my wedding. I thought we were going to have to have everyone come up to our room and we'd have to do the wedding from the bedside.
Cure: Peppermint tea, toast, and two heavy duty stomach relief tablets.
My favorite moment: After the wedding we all checked into the bed and breakfast and went for a chilly walk on the beach. Then we all came back and put together puzzles and played board games. There was something almost magical about it. Having everyone crowded around tables and having a good time. It was the perfect end to the day.
My offbeat advice: Make sure that you stay relaxed and mentally flexible. Lots of things went wrong or had to be changed at the last minute for our wedding.
The best thing to do is to just go with it. At the end of the day the only thing that is important is that you are married to the person you love. Also, people are much more willing to help you out if you keep a calm head.
All weddings are to some extent stressful, but it's how you manage that stress that distinguishes a lady from a brat.
I'm not saying that I didn't get stressed. All weddings are to some extent stressful, but it's how you manage that stress that distinguishes a lady from a brat.
Enough talk — show me that wedding porn: Click the photo below to see amazing shots of Katie & Forrest's old-time Victorian-inspired ship wedding!
“it’s how you manage that stress that distinguishes a lady from a brat.” Well said!
What a fab wedding, congrats.
I had the great great pleasure of making Katie’s wedding hat. She was an absolute delight of bride & so amazingly gracious. Photos from her big day are still some of my favs — the sepia shots — swoon.
Congrats again Katie & Forrest!
Words of wisdom! I love this wedding~ right out of a movie.

this is my dream wedding–if i didn’t already have my dream wedding in my garden! i LOVE this. gorgeous!
Wow- this wedding is amazing. My boyfriend and I were talking the other day about how we wish we lived in Victorian times. (on halloween his costume was full 1890s/1900s train conductor.) I love the clothes and the ship. Beautiful.
Stunning. Just stunning. Love it.
I am so in love with this wedding.
This is COOL. I would have LOVED to have been a guest at this wedding. Really awesome.
I absolutely love this wedding theme, so beautiful and unique!
I also used James Olson of Alberbrook Imaging for my wedding photographer and must say we had the best experience with him. He was so laid back, and very helpful with things not related to the photography of the wedding. His prices are very reasonable and I try to reccommend him to everyone I know.
DROOL! that first shot is just amazing.
I love the old timey theme and that ship is fabulous.
This is so inspiring. I hope I meet somebody to be able to do something like this. So romantic. It reminds me one of the best movies ever. Go Di Caprio!!!!
Very very different kinda style. May be very few were the ones who are actually impressed by this theme.. But I must say its amazing..
