This is going to get really meta up in here. When we first saw this styled shoot from Germany, which features a fictional Instagram-obsessed bride, we couldn't get over just how EXTRA it was. I mean, we're talking about a glam and dreamy behind-the-scenes view of what a social media maven's wedding morning might look like– there are trendy pillows, gorgeous confections, a love note from her fiance, and even a smoothie bowl(!).
There are definitely some of us (sheepishly raises hand) who love viewing and crafting a social media aesthetic. (Hell, people are making a living off of it.) The whole thing is over-the-top, and LOL-worthy, and also kind of awesome. Plus, the trend-watchers in us love seeing what wedding and social media trends are influencing us, even just from afar.
Aside from the meta social media trend commentary, this is actually pretty gorgeous. A little fantasy never hurt anyone, right? Enough teasing! Let's get to this Instagram wedding shoot…

What is a smoothie bowl? Are we talking about her Müsli?
To me, this shoot seems sad and lonely. I couldn’t help but think something happened to her partner.
A smoothie bowl is when you take a perfectly good smoothie, put it in a bowl, and spend an hour delicately arranging toppings on it so it’s “aesthetic” enough for Instagram. I also was not at all enthralled with these photos– they seem very cold.
I think it’s interesting how, if looked at individually, the images are beautiful and could be part of a real wedding shoot. But as a set they contextualise each other and take on this narrative of a lonliness hidden behind (or born out of) an over emphasis on instagram-aesthetisism. Especially the one where she’s holding her own hand. There’s something weirdly alienating and interesting about the fact that I can’t tell if it’s trying to sell me something, or warn me about something, or both.
Well, that is the story! Instagram is about showing everything and sometimes selling. 🙂
Totally agree. So grim and lonely. To me, the whole point of a wedding is sharing love!
Anybody else weirded out by the handprints over the bed 0_0
Wow, what great photos, I like this style. Is that in Berlin?
