Offbeat partners: Lexie (she/her) & Leslie (she/her)
Date and location: 12/02/2023, Vik, Iceland
Our wedding at a glance
They (we) met in Texas when Lexie was on a work trip. The work trip kept getting push back, which was very frustrating, but the universe knew what she was doing. If Lexie had gone on the original date, they never would have met. Leslie moved to Texas two days before Lexie arrived, as soon as they saw each other, they knew they found their forever person. Lexie asked Leslie to go on a date of a haunted ghost tour of Austin Texas. Hours before the date, Lexie searched all over Texas to find two slices of rainbow cake, which she surprised Leslie in the car with after the tour.
Once the cake was eaten, they went to a pizza place and talked the night away. So long that the workers were cleaning up around them. After that, they were inseparable. Before Lexie left for California, Leslie slipped a letter into a book Lexie was reading. The letter expressed how Leslie has never let felt this way about another person and how she wanted to give this relationship a shot.
Lexie called her as soon as she could, to let her know that she has also never felt this way, and was scared but was ready to take this leap of faith of with her. Leslie moved with Lexie to California. Lexie proposed to Leslie at the Orange County fairgrounds with the help of family and friends. When they were discussing wedding plans, Lexie said “wouldn’t it be crazy if we just eloped in Iceland?!”, Leslie said that was the best idea and the planning began!
Our photographer Anna Isabella was absolutely incredible! She found the best locations, she is so sweet, always had our vision in mind, and did whatever she could to make our dreams come true!
Tell us about the ceremony
The ceremony was at Steinbogafoss Falls in Vik, Iceland. The waterfall was SO powerful, you can barely hear anything else! We were in awe that we were standing in front of this waterfall that was freezing when the water hit the ground. We just kept looking at each other and asking if this was real. It was an absolute dream come true. As soon as we hiked to the top of the waterfall, we couldn’t stop smiling with these very goofy grins.
Editor's Note: we'll be featuring Lexi and Leslie's full vows in a future post, but here's a snippet:
My love, you are my life, my love, my best friend, my everything. I love you for all the seasons, more specifically your uncanny ability to see right through me, those eyes, your smile, your resilience, your encyclopedia-like knowledge, and your butt.
There are many more things and we have the rest of our lives for me to tell you. I still can’t believe we are here doing the eloping, and seeing the northern lights! It’s all amazing and wild, just like the rest of our story. We met in a place neither of us knew, spent a couple hours being closely followed on a ghost tour because someone was “cold”. Then came the rainbow cake from a bag in the backseat… two hours of driving around in an unknown town to buy me cake?? Then we closed down the pizza place, and the rest is history!
Tell us about the reception
After the ceremony we found a little Christmas town filled with twinkle lights called Selfoss. We ordered burgers and fries while the song “Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)” by The Penguins played in the background.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
I think the biggest challenge emotionally was remembering who the wedding is about. Some people were not happy about the elopement, and at the end of the day it’s about us. They say that every marriage needs a little magic ✨. Our elopement was magical.
