Location & date of wedding: Telfair Museum's Jepson Center, Savannah, GA — April 24, 2010
Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Bold colors, a museum venue, a trolley, a cathedral, close family, and a broken foot. I broke my foot a week before the wedding, but thanks to family and friends, walked down the aisle that day for the first time in a week and danced the night away (from the waist up, that is). The dances were not traditional. The father/daughter dance was the Hokey Pokey, which was so much fun. The mother/son dance was choreographed to James Brown, complete with sunglasses.
Tell us about the ceremony: We got married in a catholic church. I was raised catholic, and Seth was raised in the methodist church. It was important to our families that we bring in a spiritual aspect, and we felt it added importance to our big day.
Our biggest challenge: HAVING A BROKEN FOOT! Life is unpredictable, but I powered through and we even went to Hawaii the day after! Plus, it became quite comical and got me out of a lot of duties! Less stress all-around, perhaps.
My favorite moment: Seeing Seth cry for the first time, and literally learning to walk again — but towards him this time.
My funniest moment: My 89-year-old grandma dancing more than any of us youngsters. She played balloon guitar and danced with every man who would have a dance.
My advice for offbeat brides: If you can dream it, do it. Try to get everyone involved in the DIY aspects, if you can. Families are important, so make sure to include them when appropriate and if it will be helpful to you.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? There is never enough time, but it helps to try to relax, especially on the day. Oh, and take LOTS of pictures! It's worth it.
