Those of you follow Offbeat Bride's Instagram Stories may have seen some sneak peeks from this shoot in Seattle, but now you can scroll through the complete dopamine-driven vision that came to fruition in this gender fluid science-themed wedding inspiration. The whole thing was photographed at The Lab at Ada's — a secret little event space behind Capitol Hill's beloved nerdy bookstore.
The shoot features not one but TWO breathtaking vintage-inspired dresses by Zeita Studios, opulent jewelry and rings by EraGem that will have you panting, a periodic table seating chart and lush flowers by Ginger Bee Events. Wait until you see the organic nature-meets-science decor from Vintage Ambiance. Peep the science-themed nerdy cookies by Street Treats, too — everything pops against the dark ambiance of The Lab's science decor… are you seeing that test tube chandelier over the bar!? Oh, and when they needed someone to stand in as a faux wedding officiant, I grabbed and vintage algebra book and did my best blue steel. HA!
And you definitely want to know the deal with the two models for the shoot, Matt and Sarah. Keep reading for more — and do NOT miss the slideshow and behind-the-scenes video by June Films at the end!
So this is The Lab, which is a little hidden event space behind Ada's Technical Books in Seattle. The space has a capacity of about 40 people, which means it's perfect for elopements or super intimate weddings. Also, trivia: it's downstairs from Offbeat Bride's corporate headquarters! I'm selfishly looking forward to crashing weddings here in the future. HA! Just kidding. (…Or am I?)
THOSE DIAMONDS FROM ERAGEM!
Ok, so can we talk for a second about the models here, Sarah and Matt? These two are dear friends who are also coworkers at Ada's Technical Books, roommates, oh AND they co-produce burlesque shows together with OK FINE Collaborations. This is all to say, they spend a lot of time together, but are 100% not romantic partners. (Much to the confusion of Matt's grandparents.)
Talking to the two of them about the shoot, it seemed like part of the fun for them in being models together was that in addition to getting to play dress-up in gorgeous gowns and jewelry, it was also a way to celebrate the partnership — even in its very NON-romantic form. We all know this, but especially here on Offbeat Bride, it's easy to forget that partnership and wonderful relationships in our lives don't just come in romantic packages. Matt and Sarah have a relationship that includes work, play, performance, and domesticity… you can see from their smiles in these pictures how close they are, and I love this shoot as a way to celebrate that meaningful relationships aren't JUST about romantic partnerships.
So yeah, these two aren't really romantic partners, but this WAS theoretically a styled wedding shoot, so I stepped in to pretend to be a wedding officiant fake marrying two people who aren't romantic, reading from a holy text that was actually a vintage algebra book.
And yes, that's my dog Sassafras.
Are you dying over this period table seating chart by Ginger Bee Events? I was, especially since it matched the freaking wall of The Lab!

I never thought I’d use the expression but that photo of platform, glittery hiheels, hairy legs and baby blue dress hem lifted just so: SLAYS ME. Slays, I say. DEAD. IN. MAH. CHAIR. Fnrglhksglkh, so stylish, so cheeky, so gorgeous.
A lovely inspiration shoot, even if I generally avoid those. It just conveys the feeling that a small, intimate wedding can still be sparkling with energy!
Also balls to the walls hella fething yeaaah for gender-fluid representation!
I just?? This is my dream wedding?? I feel so gay in this moment! (Of course, everyone prefers real wedding photos to a styled shoot, but the fact that the models are actually close friends does make it better.)
HELL YES! Feeling queer AF right now. I want this and other photos like this to be dominating my feed!
I didn’t read the text under the photos at first and I thought they were really in love! It looks so romantic and beautiful. I love the green tones with gold.
