I love how this inspiration shoot combines the traditional with the ultra eclectic, which seems to really reflect what’s happening in offbeat weddings right now. We’re all about embracing traditions we feel resonate and tossing out what doesn’t. The best part of this shoot for me was the venue: a dusty old theater in Red Hook, Brooklyn, called the Jalopy Theater. Think tons of funky instruments, dark and shadowy corners, and a wedding vibes that totally matches.

I hit up one of my faves, Minted, to see what they had in the way of cost-saving options and affordable wedding invitations. Thankfully, budget savvy weddings can be a thing with a couple of new styles of invitations that save money for both you AND your guests (think postcard stamps instead of regular ones and way less bulk).

If there’s ever a place that deserves to be photographed with lush flowers, faux furs, and black lace, it’s Franklin Falls, about 50 miles east of Seattle with waterfalls, hiking routes, and tons of greenery. This wintry elopement inspiration shoot featured burgundy velvet, Jon Snow-worthy furs, jagged icicles, and a roaring waterfall.

It was a three-mile walk to the area, but the breathtaking views are most definitely worth it. Go see for yourself and let me know how much you pine for that black gown…
