There are some people who think offbeat weddings don’t happen in the fly-over states. These people will be surprised. Behold a few of our favorite weddings from the Midwest including Chicago weddings, Iowa weddings, Ohio weddings, Michigan weddings, and more. Submit your wedding for consideration via offbeatwed.com/submissions.

Nicole & Damien’s gothic handfasting Halloween party

Get your candy out because it’s Halloween Week! We’ve got zombies, ghosts, and gore in our weddings. Today it’s gothic style and awesome costumes including a giant banana (if you know what I mean… wait, that’s not what I mean).

Natasha & Jordan’s Roaring Twenties theater wedding

This retro ’20s bash was held in a theater, had three headpiece changes (my kind of girl), and eclectic music (including a ceremony serenade from the bride’s father’s band!). And get ready to get a toothache from the tutu flower girls and kids reading Shel Silverstein at the ceremony. PLUS: a 1920s-themed photo booth makes everyone era-ready!

Kendall & Alex’s Portillo’s-fueled crafty wedding

After rejecting expensive catering, these two opted for a Chicago fave: Portillo’s! That plus awesome cupcakes, a cool non-cheesy DJ, and tons of origami flowers, and you have this sweet offbeat lite Midwestern wedding. We also learned from the bride that it’s okay to forget your lines in the ceremony.

Kelsey & Meghan’s classic happy-sappy wedding

These two ladies decided early on that priorities were key and they wouldn’t be going into debt from the wedding. And they were able to pull together a lovely ceremony and dancefest reception (with s’mores!). You might also never guess that the bride’s two dresses and all the dresses in the wedding party were handmade, too!
