Let’s be honest: most styled wedding shoots are… fine. Pretty. Predictable. But this shoot from the Offbeat Wed vendor community? This one is different. This one is soft, sacred, silly, and subversive all at once.
Seattle-based event designer Jake Taylor of Functions and Gatherings (who also models in the shoot) dreamed up a gender-expansive, fat-celebrating bridal fantasy… then brought together a killer vendor team to bring it to life. The result? A creamy dream of tulle, chiffon, and unapologetic sparkle that gives big-time joy while gently flipping the bird to rigid beauty standards.

“So much of the creative work we do at Functions and Gatherings is all about color! Camp! Fun! Unexpected things!” Jake told us. “But what's really important to us is showing everyone that doesn't typically see themselves represented in wedding media that there's a place for them.”
Yes, yes, and yes again.

Let's talk about the LOOK

The gown from May/Hem is a draped confection of soft white satin and blush chiffon, paired with sheer opera gloves that feel like queer royalty cosplay in the best way. Hair and makeup by Blush Strokes Beauty leaned into the ethereal mood with pearl accessories and flushed cheeks, while The Evergreen Girls captured every moment with cinematic softness.

What makes this shoot visually unforgettable is the kaleidoscopic softness captured in every frame. The Evergreen Girls didn’t just document the look… they translated it into feeling. Using intentional lens flares, delicate overlays, and sun-washed angles, the photos shimmer with an almost rainbowed iridescence, like queer wedding magic filtered through a prism. The phots have an emotionality that goes beyond the ethereal vibes. Each image feels like a memory of a dream you didn’t know you had… one where fat, gender-expansive beauty takes up space with softness, power, and glow.

The setting? A mix of indoor vintage glam at Hall at Fauntleroy, and sun-drenched outdoor fantasy complete with dramatic trailing chiffon and a towering wedding cake topped with florals by Fern Hollow Florals. (Which yes, Jake does in fact bite into. Iconic.)

Pedersen’s Event Rentals rounded out the scene with crisp linens and crystal-clear glassware that played beautifully with the dreamy color palette.

Styled shoots are play. But they’re also power.
Let’s name the elephant in the chiffon-draped room: Yes, this is a vendor-staged shoot. But that doesn't make it any less vital. When marginalized bodies and identities are consistently erased from wedding media, representation in any context becomes a radical act.

This shoot isn’t pretending to be a real wedding day. It’s saying: This kind of beauty exists. This kind of marrier exists. You exist… and you deserve to be seen.
During Pride Month, “rainbow washing” and performative queer capitalism runs rampant. But queer and gender-expansive love deserves celebration every damn month. And fat joy? Gender-nonconforming joy? That’s something we need way more of in this late-stage capitalist hellscape.

So here’s to big dresses, bigger feelings, and the biggest truth of all: every body is a bridal body when it belongs to someone who wants to wear the dress.
