Our sci-fi wedding at a glance:
We had a Twilight Zone-themed wedding! The show has always been a good conversation starter for us, and we both love music and movies.
The wedding date was my Grandmother's birthday, which also coincided with Mother's Day. The date was important to me and I simply was not going to get married on any other day. On my grandmother’s memorial table, I had her bio that I wrote and a drawing I did of my childhood home, plus photos of my Mother Eunice, and my Grandfather Robert.
I had two dresses: a ceremony and second dress for reception by Erica Angeline. I sketched what I wanted and then she with her expertise made them even better and brought them to reality. She spent 18 months on the ceremony gown. The word ROYAL may even be an understatement! She also spent 6 months on the reception dress. Custom couture that was worth every penny.
Tell us about the sci-fi wedding ceremony:
Our wedding was nontraditional. I am Christian he is not so we definitely did not go the religious route so we would both be comfortable.
We walked in holding hands as a display of unity to the Cornfield Chase by Hans Zimmer from the movie Interstellar.
My best friend Kara Patterson officiated and we both wrote our own heartfelt vows to each other. My groom’s vows absolutely touched my entire soul. It was beautiful and we plan on printing and framing our vows to each other.
Our vows were very personal. We had been together 15 years and were finally getting married. I am 16 years older than my groom but we are an ageless couple. Our vows were a reflection of all we have been through, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and the culmination of our love and commitment to each other in that moment.
My favorite part of my groom's vows (due to him being an introvert) was his promise to be willing to go with me on my adventures (I am an extreme extrovert).
Our wedding rings are black Tungsten, custom made by a jeweler on Etsy with silver meteorite (yes real meteorite) in the bands.
Tell us about the sci-fi wedding reception:
The reception was something I had concerns about since my hubby has social anxiety. Luckily for him, although sadly for me, we had a lower turnout than expected. In the end, it was wonderful for him and in so, for me as well.
I'm a web designer and a chef! I was able to get the Venue Chef to replicate some of my favorite recipes of my own and it made for some super delicious pasta.
Our baker was also invited as a guest and she is now a close friend after the experience. She and her friends and family were the life of the party. I cannot thank Pristeena Adams enough for her contributions to making our reception fun.
We spent days and several hours on making the menus, and plot cards for each table setting.
I made and designed all the Twilight Zone graphics for the wedding . We really wanted our guests to learn more about The Twilight Zone.
Each table had plates that sat on silver chargers and on those, a plot booklet which showed an image from each episode and the plot for each episode. On each table were 8-9 inch tall table name holders that mimicked the Twilight Zone symbol.
The most important thing on each table were custom glass boxes with frosted custom made The Twilight Zone decals. We filled those with small cool white LED mini balls to create a glow on the table.
We had favor boxes filled with the authentic Twilight Zone trading cards, a box hand decorated with a thimble in it from the episode The After Hours, a scroll sealed with Twilight Zone stickers, and personalized black and white swirl lollipops.
For the ceremony and reception I had pedestal stands with led faux crystal candles and a custom made backdrop I had made to capture The Twilight Zone symbol.
To tie it all together we had the episode Time Enough at Last playing on the projectors.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your sci-fi wedding?
My biggest lesson learned was that while I was very disappointed that more of my family did not show up, I had to find joy in the love me and my husband shared on that day.
