Some love stories start in the most unexpected places, ours began on a night of dancing. Well, I was dancing. Chelsey was working as a VIP bouncer, standing tall, strong, and completely stealing my attention. The moment I saw her, I knew she was the one.
Seven years and one month later, we were standing barefoot in the sand, surrounded by the people we love, saying “I do” under the glowing lights of Secrets Playa Blanca, Costa Mujeres.
A New Year’s Proposal (And a Not-So-Real Whale Sighting)
Every New Year’s, we go on an adventure together, and this time, we found ourselves at a breathtaking cove along the Kitsap Peninsula in the Pacific Northwest. The waves crashed against the shore, the salty air wrapped around us, and then… “Look! A whale!”
Spoiler: there was absolutely no whale.
After what felt like forever of me scanning the horizon for this imaginary sea creature, I finally turned around, and there she was, on one knee. My heart stopped, time stood still, and the answer was obvious: YES.
Why a Destination Wedding in Mexico?
We wanted an intimate wedding with our closest family and friends, and we also wanted to turn our wedding into a full-on vacation. Our planner, Paradise Weddings, helped us choose an all-inclusive resort and organize all our guests.
Going with a resort meant less stress, less planning, and more celebrating, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions we made.
The Dress That Danced With the Ocean
I found my perfect “beachy” wedding dress at JoyFolie. It was light, airy, and flowed like a dream—exactly what I wanted for a wedding by the waves. We added a petticoat for some extra volume, but let’s be honest… that thing came off the second the ceremony was over (beach weddings are hot, y’all!).
The Most Magical Night of Our Lives
If we had to describe our wedding in one word? Unreal. The venue was breathtaking: string lights glowing over the sand, a bar right in the middle of the beach, and fire pits flickering under the stars. We laughed, we cried, we danced until our feet ached.
But the best part? We got to be fully present. I learned something through this process, when you let go and trust the moment, magic happens. And that night? It was pure magic. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day, and we’ll cherish it forever.
Would we do it all over again? In a heartbeat.
We met while I was out for a night of dancing, and she was working her second job as a VIP bouncer at a local club. I knew the minute I met her that she was the ONE. 7 years, and 1 month later… and we were getting married on a beach in Mexico!
