When Stevie and Clinton got engaged, Clinton had one brilliant suggestion: what if their Colorado wedding was also a costume party? Stevie didn’t hesitate: she leaned in fully, and together they built a Halloween costume wedding that would become unforgettable. The result was a full-blown Halloween costume wedding in their Grand Junction backyard, complete with witches, vampires, jack-o-lantern flower girls, and a dance floor that looked like a cast party for the best spooky movie you’ve never seen.

From the very beginning, the tone was set. Guests weren’t just invited to dress up… it was required. And for anyone who showed up underdressed, the couple had a box of spare disguises ready to go. That one detail alone tells you exactly what this wedding was about: joy, creativity, and making sure everyone felt included in the fun.

The ceremony unfolded beneath a geometric wooden arch dripping with autumn blooms in shades of deep purple, fiery orange, and inky black, echoing the exact color palette spread across the reception tables.

Their officiant leaned into the theme with a tall black top hat and bolo tie, looking like he had wandered straight out of a gothic novel. Stevie wore a Wilderly Bridal gown with a dramatic black lace–trimmed veil from Brautwunsch on Etsy, paired with dark gloves and a jeweled crown. Clinton stood across from her in a sharp vest, orange patterned tie, and pocket watch chain, leaning into subtle details that nodded to the season.

The wedding party looked straight out of a coven: bridesmaids in rich purple gowns carried broomstick bouquets, a vampire bestie stood ready to lurk in the shadows, and flower girls toddled down the aisle dressed as tiny jack-o-lanterns. It was a ceremony where every angle, from outfits to florals, made the halloween theme undeniable.

Stevie remembers the moment she knew Clinton was the one: “I had never been treated so well in any relationship, and I couldn’t believe he picked me.” That tenderness glowed through every glance they shared, framed by Colorado’s trees turning the exact shade of gold and crimson you’d dream of for a fall wedding.

Of course, the reception was where the theme really took flight. Long tables covered in purple and black linens were decked with pumpkin vases holding black calla lilies and glitter-dusted roses. Hand-painted signs instructed guests to grab blankets “to have and to hold in case you get cold,” and a giant chalkboard ghost warned everyone to leave their cell phones tucked away during the ceremony.

And then came the treats. A caramel apple bar let guests dunk slices into caramel and load them with sprinkles, chocolate chips, or candy. Cupcakes were topped with spiderwebs and pumpkins. Pumpkins painted with “Mr” and “Mrs” flanked the head table, where a Nightmare Before Christmas–inspired sign declared the couple “simply meant to be.” It was spooky, it was sweet, and it was entirely them.

The costumes didn’t disappoint. Clinton and Stevie’s friends came dressed as Joe Exotic and his tiger, a mad scientist, Bob & Linda from Bob’s Burgers, a family in full Alice in Wonderland regalia, and even a squirrel and a snail. The DJ set the tone right away with “Monster Mash,” and from there the dance floor turned into a technicolor parade of every possible Halloween character, shimmying together under the tent lanterns.

This wedding is proof that when you follow through on the theme that lights you up, you throw the kind of party your guests will never forget (that also just happened to get married at!). Stevie and Clinton’s Halloween costume wedding wasn’t just a holiday celebration, or just a wedding. It was the ultimate mash-up of love, laughter, and spooky joy.
