Karine and Marc decided to take their Boston Marathon experience to a whole new level… by getting married RIGHT after. No showering, no changing, just finish line to altar. And it did not disappoint! There may have been rain and cold, but there was also tons of love.

I'm going to let their planner, Josef from Contagious Events, tell the story of how it all came about…

Recently, it seems every year we have clients who are running the marathon. Karine and Marc were special though — they literally ran to their wedding. We planned an incredible day: post race, they would regroup since they were running at different paces and meet with Karine’s parents who were in town for the occasion. From there, the group met us and Rev. Joanna Lubkin at the Arlington Street Church. We armed the couple with florals from Flou(-e)r and had Lara from Studio Nouveau on hand to document the ceremony.

It’s no secret among my team and fellow vendors that I cry at every wedding ceremony where the couple writes their own vows. I thought maybe I could keep it together for this couple, since their vows were in French and my knowledge of the language begins and ends with “oui.”

I was wrong. Not a dry eye in the house. Between the triumph of racing the marathon, overcoming the weather, and the emotions of the day, everyone was crying tears of joy and happiness.

Post ceremony, the couple enjoyed special marathon cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes and celebrated with dinner and cava at Loco in South Boston.

We were especially impressed by Marc’s ability to keep so many elements of the day a secret: Karine didn’t know he had arranged for flowers and cupcakes to be incorporated into the ceremony, and he surprised everyone, including our team, when he showed up at the ceremony with a special necklace for Karine.

Comments on This pair finished the Boston Marathon and went right into their ceremony!

  1. This is awesome! They have a lot more pep I would have had if I even tried to do a marathon.

  2. Yessss! Arlington St. Church! That place is awesome. I’m a historic tour guide in Boston and one of my favorite facts to share is that Arlington St. Church was the first CHURCH in the country to host a LEGALLY RECOGNIZED same sex marriage when MA became the first state in the country to legalize same sex marriage. (Technically the first ceremony was at Cambridge city hall, but that was the first legal ceremony in a church!) Props to the couple for choosing such a fantastic, progressive, and historic church for their ceremony. And OMG YAY on them doing so directly after running the marathon! Omg this whole story makes me so happy.
