The Day of the Doctor is coming in honor of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary. What better way to relish one of our fave fandoms than to have a Doctor Who theme week? Today we’ve got a vintage dress, a huge homemade Dalek (and mini flower girl Dalek!), and a wedding guide made for us to “not panic!” It’s a sci-fi wedding… so say us all!
The Day of the Doctor is coming in honor of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary. What better way to relish in one of our fave fandoms than to have a Doctor Who theme week? Today we’ve got an all-era time travel costume wedding! Think amazing decor (including light-up centerpieces!), a chihuahua in a dress, and a mysterious Time Lord officiant coming out of the smoke! This theatrical pair KNOWS how to throw a multi-talented party.
I have sworn off all wedding-related things. Or, at least, things not related directly to my wedding. This includes TV shows, magazines, The Knot, and any other website that makes me have unrealistic expectations of my nuptials. This “wedding propaganda,” as I have so lovingly been calling it, has only overwhelmed me, smothered my own voice inside my head, and made me feel inadequate in the planning and execution of my own wedding. This is unacceptable.
Everyone who has watched “Say Yes to the Dress” knows about the expected “ah-hah” moment in the bridal dress salon. But what happens when that, well, doesn’t happen? How do you know to say yes to that dress?
Seattle-based officiant Elaine Way was contacted by our Trekkie couple of the day (John and Becky) and asked if she would dress in full character for their ceremony. The character they had in mind was none other than Q, aka the bossy enlightened know-it-all from Next Generation. Since Becky and John are full-blown Trekkies, we also have the entire ceremony AND a wedding video!
We teased this contender for most geeky references ever in a wedding a couple of weeks ago, and now you’ll get the whole story AND all the fandom references we know you want! We’re talking Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Firefly, World of Warcraft, Dracula, Sherlock, Transformers, Myst, Diablo… GASP… Portal, Lord of the Rings, Mario… WHEW, I can’t even go on. There’s too many. Go on without us. But know that it’s dangerous to go alone. Take this wedding.
