Learning to say goodbye to a happy singlehood

When the girl of my dreams accepted my proposal, I thought that was the happy ending to my single-hood. Bam! You’re engaged, it’s what you wanted and worked for, proceed to have a bridal glow till you walk down the aisle! Right? Wrong. I felt like there must be something wrong with me. I wasn’t as happy as I should be.

Lying in bed one night, sleepless and guilty, I started googling “Cold Feet.” Among the fairly unhelpful articles, there was one titled, “Mourning my single self.” Upon reading it, I had such a moment of epiphany that I was surprised the choir of angels didn’t wake my fiance up.

5 offbeat marriages that may need a lawyer

Look, I know what you’re thinking, because I’m a lawyer when I’m not being a bride and I hear it all the time. Seeing a lawyer isn’t like a cake tasting or interviewing a band. It’s not fun. But if your offbeat family fits one of these five categories, you’ll want a consultation with an attorney licensed in your state ASAP, not after you start getting RSVPs.

KB & Fran’s eco Celtic “goyish gay” wedding

The bagpipes, the flowers, the tartan, the grins — this wedding is an eco-celtic dreamland. Their handfasting ceremony was officiated by a dear friend — from her smartphone — and wait till you see who joined the band onstage!

The happiest gay lumberjack wedding ever

I got completely immersed in the photos sent from Kristen Marie Photography, and was cheering along with the guests (you’ll see what I mean when you get there). She described this as a “gay lumberjack” wedding, which is just fantastic. There’s summer camp/scouting influences, talent shows, tubing down a river, log cutting, and the happiest faces ever. Plus, it’s in Washington, so it’s legal. Seriously, just start looking.

Erin & Jay’s queer Jewish Dominican wedding

This pair has an awesomely diverse community willing to celebrate and totally donate their time and energy into making this wedding rock. And boy, did it. In addition to the bride’s handmade dress (out of a sari!) and groom’s kick-ass suit, there was wedding party aisle dancing, ukulele toasts, and a giant group hug right after the ceremony.
