The Offbeat Bride: Janeria
Her offbeat partner: Dwayne
Date and location of wedding: Pop-up wedding under the arch of Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY; reception at Acqua Santa, Brooklyn, NY — October 31, 2014
Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
We had a pop-up style Hallowedding in New York City. A couple of people dressed up, and my closest friends attended the ceremony in gorgeous garb, but showed up to the reception as “old biddies.” We had a photo booth which got some pretty good shots. Most of what we had was DIYed, made by myself or my mom.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We wanted to have it outside and in Brooklyn with only close friends and family. We were limited on time, so we only got a couple of shots in at the ceremony site. We had my friend's mom marry us because neither one of us are religious, and we wanted to customize the ceremony.
We chose the arch of Grand Army Plaza and told everyone to just meet us there!
Tell us about your reception:
We held the reception at Acqua Santa, which was perfect for us. We had a Halloween dessert table done by this GREAT baker, Cake Pops by Jenn. My mom created all of the decorations.

I love this! I really like the backdrop of where they had the ceremony too. What a neat and fun wedding to do a Halloween theme.
I read the title of this post and thought “silly” because I hate themed affairs. Luckily, I gave a look anyway! What a unique and intimate wedding…everyone looked like they were having a blast! Cake table looks delish and the theme doesn’t seem overbearing. I wonder if the dog was allowed to attend the reception?
What a beautiful couple, and the orange and purple are glorious!
Gorgeous wedding. I also love how the bride looks like she’s floating on side view.
I am a huge fan of nightmare before Christmas so I love that they made it fun, charming and romantic! especially happy that their friends and family join in on the fun!
That dress!!! I LOVE the overcoat! Gorgeous wedding! I can’t believe it was handmade…lucky girl!
I *LOVE* the groom’s orange sweater! The flowers! The bride’s swoon-worthy purple shoes! The masquerade masks! The quick pop up ceremony outside! ALL wonderful!
P.S. The decorator shows some serious talent, at the reception!!! 🙂
OMG! You have no idea how excited I was to learn you’d feature my wedding. I honestly didn’t think it would get chosen. I really wanted to put out there my Hallowedding because it was difficult for me finding the balance between wedding and Halloween (we love Halloween), so once our wedding was over, I wanted to help anyone I could! Thanks for helping me do that! 🙂 This write up and it’s comments got me reliving my wedding day (and we had a blast that night!). Thanks for this! 🙂
