Posted byIt's been a while since I did my first card box roundup, so I thought I'd inundate you with all the latest and greatest ideas in card boxes. If you're not sure what a card or envelope box is, that's okay; I didn't know what they were either. Here's the idea: it can be smart to set out a card box at your reception for your guests to deliver their cards, instead of delivering them into your hands and then you losing them. (Not that I speak from experience or anything… okay, I do… speak from stupid experience, that is.)
So yes! Card boxes are rad, and easy to incorporate, and save you a lot of hassle. Wanna have a unique wedding card box at your wedding now? Well, here are some nifty ideas.
Kashiitan's cardbox was modeled after their cat, Pancake. This wins for card box that I most want to feed a saucer of milk to.
Mackitten got her gorgeous bird house card box from Etsy seller DoorCountyWoodworks.

Kaylee hand painted and lined her card box with vintage fabric to re-create that old suitcase feel. She said, “it was perfect for the cards and then easy to close and carry away with us.”

Meet Oscar, the card box monster. Millennyum did a really cool spin on the popular monster card box — she took a mini trash can, covered it with fur, eyes, teeth and a tail, and an adorable little card box monster was born.
Jessa and Nic's Super Mario card box was created by Etsy seller jen4eternity.
Catnippe also had an awesome Super Mario-themed card box. This one wins for the card box I most want to bash my head against.
Pinterest served up this hollowed out log card… log, I guess. Love the carved initials.
DM used a Peavey mini amp, sans guts, as their card box. She explains, “It took awhile to get my hands on something that could cut through the steel plate inside, but now it's done. When the door is closed you can't even tell it's not part of the amp.”
Or if you'd rather super-size your card amp, here's June's Maid of Honor whipped up — a replica Mesa amp, complete with Marceline the Vampire Queen (from Adventure Time) axe bass. Here's a photo for scale.
Aminspace used an antique stereoscope (3D photo viewer) as a card box. She even included a cool photo for guests to check out when they made a deposit.
I love this robot card box, constructed from an old computer which the groom had been using as a nightstand.

Ours was a hollowed out log as well. I’m kinda bummed that I don’t have any pictures of it. Another couple had left it at our wedding venue a few years ago, and during our planning the manager was like, “This seems to fit your style – wanna use it?!”
We’re also doing the carved out log! My ffil is making it for me! 🙂
I love that Mario jumping box thingy (do they have an actual name?)! I think we are going to do an Owl Post themed box for our steampunky/nerdy/slighty harry potter themed wedding ^.^
Hey, that’s our (TARDIS) card box! It was made by an amazing friend and was plenty big enough (on the inside!).
well, of course it was big enough on the inside… it’s the tardis, isn’t it? 🙂
So.. this might be a stupid question, but do people give cards in lieu of presents or in addition to?
Usually the money or the check inside the card IS their present. Which is why it’s really smart to not lose the cards on your wedding day. (oopsie!) 😉
Totally depends. If the card contains a cash gift, then that’s the gift. If they’re doing a separate gift, then the card can just be a congratulatory HURRAH! kind of thing. Alternately, some folks do gifts with no cards at all.

i’m not sure what i love more… the computer tower box, or the fact he used it as his nightstand first! That ties into the OBH nightstand roundup a few weeks back.
I love our card box. It’s Cookie Monster and he’s holding a sign that says “‘C’ is for Cards.” I need to get me to that Flickr pool so y’all can see. Of course now we just have a Cookie Monster in our hallway…

These are so cute! I absolutely LOVE the house. Also the Mario box is pretty awesome, of course. But that goes without saying.
I am in love with the kitty. I can totally picture such a card box at my wedding – except that the kitty would be modelled after my own fur-baby and sport black fur, huge yellow eyes, big fangs and scare children away, probably.

Ours is a custom designed pinata (with a slot on to to drop cards in) made for us by a super-awesome gal on etsy. It looks like a circus tent to match our theme!
