You should have seen the looks on peoples' faces when I said I wanted “edible centerpieces.” I would describe heads of kale and artichokes, but all people could apparently envision (including my own partner!) was Edible Arrangements — you know, the fruit on sticks.

Except for my wedding planner, Holly! She immediately got my vision. And, after sounding her (previously mentioned) wedding planner Horn of Gondor, she hooked me up with the most amazing florist: California Sister, who took that idea and put their own spin on it…

And I went from a bride who didn't give a crap about having a florist, to LOSING MY GAWDDAMNED MIND when I saw what California Sister showed up with.

Actual photo of me losing my mind.

Check out these amazing edible centerpieces, and then see how we enjoyed them AGAIN with our tummies:

Before: Gorgeous foodie centerpieces

All our centerpieces were edible AND themed — based on our table “houses.”

This one was my very favorite. This table was based on the location — in the redwoods in Northern California — so California Sister went woodland-y with it and added giant mushrooms…

…As well as asparagus and kale.

My house, House Finley's centerpiece, had radishes and apples…

My bridesmaid couldn't resist how good those radishes looked, and actually started chowing down on them the moment we got to the table.

Mike's house's centerpiece had kale, artichokes, lemons, and not-quite-ripe berries (if they were too ripe, they would have attracted too many insects)!

House Maui had lemons and the cutest mini pineapples I'd never even seen before!

We didn't eat them, but you'll see what we did with them later.

Of course the centerpiece on our table named after food critic Jonathan Gold was dripping in edibles…

Eggplants, artichokes, lemons, berries, and kale galore!

I have to say my favorite surprising edible centerpiece additions were the asparagus and the tomatoes!

After: Gorgeous foodie dinner

Chefs from LA restaurant Providence and my chef friends from Maine.

Four of our friends, who just happen to be amazing chefs, harvested all the centerpieces for anything edible. Then Lisa and Alex, who run a bed and breakfast in Maine, started cooking our centerpieces…

We had appetizers of lemon, fennel, asparagus, and mushrooms (all from our centerpieces), served with a little cheese all on a cracker (not from our centerpieces).

And then dinner was kale salad with radish, potatoes, and asparagus, sprinkled with lemon, and decorated with those cute-but-inedible baby pineapples. We also had eggplant hummus and artichokes.

All in all, these were the most beautiful and delicious centerpieces EVER!

  1. I LOVE that you ate those gorgeous centerpieces later! I don’t remember ever seeing edible centerpieces before ( except, as you pointed out, fruit baskets).
I didn’t know Lisa and Alex “settled” down. Their B&B is AMAZING. So beautiful.
